Excitement and high expectations pervaded the serene ambience of the University campus recently when both fresh and returning students resumed academic activities for 2008/2009 session.

While the returning students resumed on Saturday, September 6, the freshmen came into the campus on Monday, September 8 and immediately commenced registration and orientation.

The 200 level students where on hand to help the new students with their registrations. Clad in yellow T-Shirt, with the inscription "Ask Me Any Question", the sophomores excitedly directed their junior colleagues and their parents to various registration points.

Some faculty and staff who also dressed in cream colour T-shirt with inscription "I am Available to Direct", were also on hand to warmly welcome the new members of the University community and also help them to settle down in the spirit of the University's unique in loco parentis role.

The week-long registration exercise also featured interactive Parents' Forum sessions organised by the university management to acquaint parents with the vision and mission of the University as well as other issues of importance that may affect their children's studentship in the University.

While welcoming the parents at the forum, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan, congratulated them and said they were valued parents of future leaders that will soon be announced to their world. "We value you because you are the covenant parents of the leaders that will be announced to their world very soon. The purpose of Covenant University is Raising A New Generation of Leaders, not because Nigeria does not have leaders, but we need another generation of leaders," she further explained.

The Vice Chancellor assured the parents, who were obviously elated and fulfilled to see their children commence academic sojourn in the University, that the institution will deliver excellent and God fearing graduates as it has promised, adding that it was under oath to do so.

She said as part of strategic efforts aimed at preparing the students for leadership role, the University has fashioned out some custom-built programmes which includes Total Man Concept, Towards a Total Graduate and Entrepreneurial Development Studies.

Professor Obayan urged parents to partner with the University management in its effort to deliver quality graduates. She prayed that they would be alive to witness the graduation ceremonies of their children.

Some of the freshmen could not hide their joy as they expressed gratitude to God for the privilege to be trained in Hebron (as the University is known), a place where Kings and Queens are raised.

Onyeka Chukwuma, a Banking and Finance student said, "It is good to be here. A lovely environment with lovely lecturers and room mates. It is truly a good place to be". Another student, Chinedu Okoroafor, Microbiology, sees his admission as a privilege. "Out of many people that came for the University's screening exercise, it is a privilege for me to make it. I feel great to be in this place".
