Vice-Chancellor, Registrar inducted Fellows of Chartered Institute of Administration

Members of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Administration (CIA) led by their President/Chairman of Council, Administrator Samson Oyedapo Olopade, FCIA, were in Covenant University recently to induct the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo and the Registrar, Dr. Olusegun J. Omidiora into the distinguished Fellowship of the Institute.

In his opening remarks at the event, the President of the Institute, Administrator Olopade, expressed his delight to be a part of the historic occasion; stating that the Institute prides itself with excellence and professionalism, hence, the election of the two Principal Officers of the University was a testimony to the fact that they were administrators per excellence, with vast knowledge and wealth of experience in the field of Administration.

He pointed out that as high ranking members of CIA, they were expected to participate in important programmes of the Institute as well as join the credible network of competent Administrators, especially the college of Fellows so as to share from their rich knowledge in the field of Administration.

He congratulated the duo for joining the league of Professional Administrators, praying and expressing the hopes that more recognitions such as this will continue to come their way as dividends of the successes and achievements they have recorded and still counting.

He emphasised the fact that the Chartered Institute of Administration, chartered by Act No. 103 of 1992, now Cap C7 LFN 2004, is empowered to regulate the training in and practice of Administration within a professional framework throughout Nigeria.

In his remarks after the induction, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo, thanked the Members of the Governing Council of the Institute for the great honour and appreciated their magnanimity in travelling such long distances to induct not just him, but the staff and students of the University.

“It is a great joy for me today, to be recognised and honoured with this great privilege by one of the topmost institutes of Administration in Nigeria. I appreciate what the Governing Board and members of the Council have done for me today, and I thank you on behalf of the Chancellor and Management of the University. I am not taking it lightly; I see it as an opportunity to contribute my quota to the development of this great practice,” he stated

Professor Adebayo also assured the Management of the Institute that he would do his bit in any capacity he is privileged to serve; reassuring them of Covenant University’s continuous support of the Institute.

Earlier in his remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Omidiora, gave glory to God for the privilege to receive the Fellowship induction into the CIA and appreciated the great honour to be acknowledged in that way by the Institute, stating, “I know that the relationship between the two organisations has been a long one and has been mutually beneficial. The staff and students of the University have embraced the certifications from the institution. We are happy to fly the flags of CIA.”

He noted that we had reached a point where our nation, Nigeria, is in dire need of administrators at the helm of affairs, who would see people as humans and not just figures and numbers and also see people as products of decisions and policies, which is how Covenant University is.

The Registrar pointed out that words have power, stating, “I will live by the tenets of this great organisation, and as far as today is concerned, you will know that you have taken a step that will add value to this organisation. I know God will perfect things in Jesus Name.”

Reacting to the activities of the event in excitement, the Deputy Registrar, Covenant University, Mr Emmanuel Igban, appreciated the members of the Chartered Institute of Administration for honouring his principal, the Registrar, with such an auspicious award. He described the Registrar as an Administrator per excellence and a man who believes in potency of the spoken words. “I have no doubt, therefore, that he will abide by the oath of his induction today and work towards the upliftment of the Institute,” he enthused.

Others at the event were the Directors and Members of the Chartered Institute of Administration; the Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr. Tayo Osibanjo; the Director, Lifelong Learning, Dr. Jegede Ajibade; the HoD Sociology, Dr. Tayo George and the SAR Registrar’s Office, Mr. Vincent Olumuyiwa.
