CU-CDIIC: CU Commissions Renovated Iju-Ota Health Centre

The Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiative Committee (CU-CDIIC), on Saturday, May 20th, 2023, commissioned the newly renovated Iju Health Centre, Ota, Ogun State, in commemoration of the Annual Health Outreach of the Vice-President, Education, of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Pastor (Mrs.) Faith A. Oyedepo, as part of the activities marking her birthday.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, expressed his pleasure on the project, saying that one of the primary roles of a University is to make contributions within and outside the University Community. He noted that the heartbeat of the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo, is to see that impact is being made, within and outside the community of Ota, where the University is situated.

Professor Adebayo, further explained that the importance of quality health care cannot be over-emphasized, in preventing diseases and improving of quality of life in the society, which is the reason for embarking on the health care project.

More so, he said most communities in Nigeria have suffered several infectious disease outbreaks due to the nonexistence or poor funding of community Health Centers, which is the nation’s Primary Health Care delivery system. Adding that most patients by-pass health centers and begin to self-medicate because of lack of good health facilities.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Chair, CU-CDIIC Dr. Tayo George, expressed her gratitude to God at the history that was being made as Covenant University accomplished the purposes for the renovation which was to not only enhance the health of the Community, but to also honour Pastor (Mrs.) Faith Oyedepo, in commemoration of her Birthday Anniversary.

She recalled that in January 2022, the Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiative, accompanied by the current Local Government Chairman, Ado-Odo Ota, Hon. Musa Sheriff, paid a visit to the Iju Health Centre facility, during which urgent renovation work and repairs were identified.

She stated that the Health Centre was not the first community project that Covenant University has embarked on in Iju Community.

In his goodwill message, the Bale of Iju-Ota, Bale Nojeem Alagbe, made his excitement known by acknowledging the good works of the Chancellor, Covenant University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, especially, for his prompt rescue to the community by the renovation of the Health Centre.

He appreciated the committee members of the CU-CDIIC for showing their integrity all through the execution period of the project and also monitoring the project from start to finish.

The Chairman, Ado-Odo Ota, Local Government, Hon. Musa Sheriff, also lauded the project and commended the University for teaching education, values, as well as making impact in the community.

The project which is aimed at impacting the community and by extension, the society in general, was graced by the Covenant University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, accompanied by the Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi- David.

Other important personalities present from the Iju community were, the Baale of Iju, Bale Nojeem Alagbe; Chairman Ado-Odo Ota L.G.A, Hon. Musa Sheriff; Deputy Director Nursing, Ado- Odo, Mrs. Akinremi; the Borokin of Awori and Egba Land, Hon. Dr. Shotayo Razaka; Host Matron, Mrs. Akintayo and the Iya-Oloja of Iju.  

The dedicated buildings include the Staff Quarters, the Pharmacy and the Main Building.
