As the new academic session gets underway at Covenant University, the Students’ Council of the University has a new set of leaders to champion the interest of the students and interface with the University Management.

Tah Nji Deratus Angel emerged as the Chairman of the Undergraduate Students Executive, with Irabor Someze Favour and Awodipe Oluwapamilerin Oluwasemilore serving as Vice-Chair (Male) and Vice-Chair (Female) respectively.

Similarly, Wakai Theophilus Nang emerged as the Chairman of the Postgraduate Students Executives, with Abodunrin Blessing Oluwafolakemi serving as Vice-Chair, and Bassey Enwongo serving as the Executive Secretary.

In their acceptance of the responsibility, Tah Nji Deratus Angel said he was grateful to God for the privilege to serve as the Council Chair for the academic session and promised to serve his colleagues with the best of intent to foster a conducive learning community.

In the same vein, Wakai Theophilus Nang thanked the University Management for the opportunity to serve, and promised to work at strengthening the founding vision of the University of raising new generation leaders.

Wakai said the new executives were excited at the prospect of serving and looked forward to an academic session that would reflect dedicated stewardship offering the best Covenant has for all graduate school students.

 The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, while congratulating the new students’ leaders for being found worth to serve their colleagues, reminded them that their selection was not because they were the best, but because God has found them worthy, and as such they should be ready to give their best towards the interest of fellow students and the University.

Professor Adebayo counselled them to recognise that a call to leadership is not about occupying a position or holding a title. According to him, it is about taking responsibility and driving the common interest of those they have been elected to serve.

“You must recognise that you have been called to serve, and it is imperative that you recognise that you are holding that position in trust for your colleagues, and no matter what you are doing, never lose sight of your responsibility to the university,” he averred. 

The meeting had in attendance the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olujide Adekeye; Registrar, Mrs Regina Tobi-David; Dean, Students’ Affairs, Mrs Shola Coker, and members of the Students Engagement Activities and Leadership unit of the University.
