Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET) Visits Covenant University Ahead of Biannual Meeting

The Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET) has paid a courtesy visit to the Covenant University management to strengthen its relationship with the institution ahead of their biannual meeting.

The delegation, led by the CODET Secretary, who is also Covenant University's Dean of Engineering, Professor David Olukanni, expressed their excitement at the prospects of the relationship between the two parties.

In his remarks at the event, the CODET Chairman, Professor Nurudeen A. Rajia, appreciated the entire management team of Covenant University and noted that the vision of CODET is to promote and ensure the delivery of university academic standards for engineering in Nigerian Universities. The board, he said, has maintained a high standard in courses and programs in Nigerian Universities.

The chairman also announced that CODET has recently become a member of the Washington Accord, which gives opportunity to graduates in Nigeria to practice anywhere in the world, without being subjected to any other forms of examination.

Professor Nurudeen noted, that the Engineering department of Covenant University has been at the forefront of the e-presentation of Outcome Based Education (OBE), which is very encouraging. He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, and the management team for giving out the best to students of Engineering.

Also speaking at the meeting, the immediate past chairman of CODET, Engr. (Prof) James Eke, stated that CODET is ensuring that engineers in Nigeria are not just engineers on paper, but in practice. He noted that one of the ways this can be achieved through the grassroots, is the project competition in which Covenant University emerged winner in the last edition. He assured that COREN will always identify with Covenant University.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, in turn, welcomed the executives of CODET. He mentioned that it is the school's joy that all its engineering programs are given the necessary support. He said that the seven engineering programs, Petroleum, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Information and Communication, and Computer Engineering, have contributed to the global ranking and have consistently and persistently topped other Nigerian universities for the past five to six years, at the Times Higher Education rankings, adding that the school owes the Engineering Department a lot. The vice chancellor appreciated the delegation for giving Covenant University the hosting right to host the 33rd Biannual Inaugural Meeting of CODET.

Other members of the delegation were the Vice-Chairman of CODET, Engr. Professor Rowland Azike; the PRO CODET, Engr. (Prof) Zekieni R. Yelebe; and other members which include Engr. (Prof.) Michael C. Ndinechi; Iror Aondowake and Mohammad Kolo.

Also at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Olujide Adekeye; the Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David and other members of the Covenant University Management.
