Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, has once again solidified its reputation for excellence in a remarkable achievement that underscores Nigeria’s growing academic prowess, as the institution, renowned for its high academic standards and discipline, announced that 339 students have graduated with First-Class honors at its 19th convocation ceremony.
The news of this landmark achievement broke during the 19th Convocation Ceremony of the University, highlighting the University’s commitment to fostering intellectual growth and academic excellence, placing it among the elite institutions shaping the future of Africa and the world. Speaking at the event, the Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, of the institution, Dr. David Oyedepo, said that the passion for the University came alive to provide an alternate education in terms of quality, which would rescue young individuals from lifelong crises.
According to him, from the onset, there was an understanding that Covenant University was heading to become one of the best in the world.
“No wonder it has been an award-winning university almost since its inception. As you know, we are one of the most subscribed private universities in Nigeria today, to the glory of God,” he said.
The Chancellor said that the University was solving character problems among young people and committed to remain a solution-bearing institution.
In his address, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Bishop David Abioye, admonished the graduates to exercise patience in all of their endeavours as they graduate from the citadel of learning.
Abioye, who tagged his address, ‘Necessity of Patience,’ said the University has molded them into leaders, adding that it is time for them to go into the society and be game changers. The Pro-Chancellor, advised the graduates to provide solutions to the challenges facing their respective communities and soar as eagles.
Making his presentation at the occassion, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, expressed joy at the students’ accomplishments. “These young men and women have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and intellectual prowess. Their First-Class degrees are not just a testament to their hard work, but also to Covenant University’s unwavering commitment to producing global change-makers,” he said.
As Covenant University continues to raise the bar in education, the success of these 339 First-Class graduates marks a significant chapter in Nigeria’s educational narrative, showcasing the country’s potential to produce world-class scholars and professionals ready to take on global challenges.

The Covenant University convocation saw a total of 1,607 students graduate, including 339 with first-class honors, 762 with second-class upper honors, 330 with second-class lower honors, 25 with third-class honors, and 151 from postgraduate programs.
Sanni Rilwan Oludamilere, a graduate of Industrial Mathematics emerged as the Best Overall graduate with 4.99 CGPA.
